regarding the promise

As i was praying for a friend the other day, the Lord brought this quote to mind. I have been so encouraged by it since.

'When Faith is brought into action, the extent and aggravation of the difficulty is a matter of little comparative moment. Difficulties heaped upon difficulties can never raise the level of the promise of God...Unbelief looks at the difficulty. Faith regards the promise...It is faith that enlives our work with perpetual cheerfulness. It committs every part of it to God, in hope, that even mistakes shall be overruled for his glory; and thus relieves us from an oppressive anxiety, often attendant upon a deep sense of our responsibility. The shortest way to peace will be found in casting ourselves upon God for daily pardon of deficiencies and supplies of grace, without too eagerly for present fruit.' - Charles Bridges

To boast in our weakness...

This has been a hard lesson for me to learn the past six months. Well, I should say not doing the past six months and only in this past week trying to understand. In this season I have seen my weakness more than ever…my physical strength (or lack there of), my inability to do things around the house and how I care for my family. It has been easy for me to say to the Lord, ‘yes, I am weak, it is your strength I need.’ But what I have not been able to do, due to my proud heart is saying (to God, myself and others), ‘I can’t do it, I need help, can you clean my bathroom, can you help me, I CAN’T do it.’ I have come to see how many blessings and how much grace I have withheld from the Lord bestowing upon me due to my pride. I am in need of help and I can rejoice in others serving me (not grudge at the fact that I should be able to do it myself). Oh how tenderly the Lord loves and cares for each of us. How kind He is to reveal our sin, only to help us to grow, to draw us closer to Himself.

In Besides Still Waters, CH Spurgeon says that we receive our sweetest comforts in the time of trouble. That sometimes it is well for us to feel pain and weakness that we may have more gentle leading from the tender Shepherd (p.105). Please pray that I will see that is well for me to see my pain and weakness right now. That I would humbly submit to the Father’s gentle leading.

and his name is...

We finally have decided on a name for our little boy. As I was looking through baby name books, the name Chase continued to stick out to me. Its spiritual connotation is 'pursuer of truth.' Both Jon and I feel like this little boy has taught us so much about just that...pursuing the truth amidst a very difficult time. We also have both learned so much about what it means to be pursued by the Lord during the past six months. As you pray for our little can now lift him up with a name...a wonderful precious name...Chase!!!!
